003 ♝ Text | Action for Goldenrod

It's been a bit quiet as of late, hasn't it?

I wonder how long it'll be this way.

[It's short, simple and to the point. A good way to gauge reactions from people -- who likes the quiet, who misses excitement, who is skeptical it'll last much longer. In any case, it's time for him to get on with his business.]

[For those in Goldenrod, you may see him hopping rather merrily along. He may be empty handed, or you may see him carrying four very different eggs! Or maybe you see him in that in-between, while he's at the Breeding Centre picking up his order.]

[Whatever it is... he wants to talk to you. He wants to see what you think of all these things! Flag him down, trip over his feet, ask him on a date... Izaya won't mind.]

[He's quiet for a moment, leading with a smug smile. When they get upstairs, the apartment is clearly not inhabited as a living space - it's set up like an office, in fact. There are two couches and a coffee table, however.]

Please, have a seat. [He gestures towards the couch before heading over a few more feet to the stove, turning the burner on that had a tea kettle over it.]

[He takes a seat and surveys the office setting, finding it to be much more professional than the rooms he uses to put together evil schemes.]

This is quite the impressive hidden office. No one would ever think to look here!

[He’s impressed for the time being.]

How long did it take you to ssssset this up?

There's a reason I don't give this address out to just anyone, Commander-sama.

[There's a slight chuckle to his voice as he opens up one of the cabinets and pulls out a couple of cups. He looks over, smirking.]

A few days. Really, I knew exactly what I had in mind upon arrival in New Bark Town - it made arranging this much, much easier.

And who else have you given it to?

[He's not expecting an answer, but it couldn't hurt to pry.

Days? At the soonest, it took him weeks to secure and set up a location.]

If thisss is any indication of your intelligence gathering skills, I should be quite impressed with your findings.

Only those who have business with me, of course.

[He turns around, offering a smile that while wide, is also very cold.]

I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied with the results, of course.

Of course.

[Well, that’s definitely not a friendly smile. Still, he’s seen worse, and his mask does a wonderful job at hiding the slight nervous expression on his face.

He’ll take a moment to compose himself though.]

Let’s hope that I do find it sssssatisfactory.

[In an instant, the cold smile morphs back into a much more friendly one.]

We'll discuss it in just a minute. Should it not be to your liking... well, I'm sure we'll work something out.

Not that I really think it'll be a problem.

[He’ll wait. It’s not like he has anything better to do with his time today.]

Oh, I’m ssssure there won’t be any problems at all.

[There had better not be. Or he won’t be handing over any Rocket information.]

[The tea kettle begins to whistle, and Izaya's prompt in removing it from the heat and properly placing everything on a tray.]

Help yourself, if you'd like.

[He tilts his head to the side a bit, smile never leaving his face. Taking a seat, he picks up a manila file folder, waving it a bit.]

All the information you were looking for is right in this file.

I'm afraid I'll have to decline. I wouldn't want to spoil this meeting with my unfortunate appearance.

[Sorry Izaya, he's not unmasking. Instead, he'll merely gesture towards the file.]

Is it? I would like to sssssee for myself before handing over my information.

Of course, of course.

[He had a feeling that wouldn't work; he knew that much. But he preferred to be courteous to someone he had good business relations with. In any case, he nods with narrowed eyes, handing the file to him.]

Please, do take your time reading it over. I'm in no rush!

[The file is a few pages long, with detailed information on each city. There's also a shorter list, with bullet pointed summaries.]

"New Bark Town:

• An arrival point for most captors
• Easy influenced due to their lack of familiarity of the setting
• Lacks resources, but optimal point

Cherrygrove City:

• Lakefront town, attracts visitors
• All arrivals from New Bark will pass through
• Primary resting point

Violet City:

• Small, but efficient
• Resources plenty
• Many stay here for lengths of time
• Points of interest: Violet City Gym, Sprout Tower, Pokémon Academy

Goldenrod City:

• Largest city in Johto
• Resources plenty
• Primary location of interest
• Points of interest: Goldenrod City Gym, Radio Tower, Goldenrod Department Store, Name Rater's home

Olivine City:

• Beachfront city
• Considered a "vacation spot" by many
• Points of interest: Olivine City Gym, Glitter Lighthouse, Olivine Port, Olivine Café"

[This list goes on, pointing out all the points of interest in the other towns and cities, but notes that these towns are the ones most popularly frequented.]

[The Commander takes a few minutes to go through the file. Quietly, which shows that he’s actually paying attention to it.]

I knew some of this, but most of this is new information. Yessss, this will be extremely useful for determining new targets.

[He looks up from the file, satisfied with its contents.]

Now then, as far as your payment is concerned, we agreed to swap information, correct?

[In the meanwhile, Izaya takes the time to pour his tea, bringing the cup to his mouth as he makes the first statement.]

I figured you would know at least some of it, but it wouldn't be a thorough report if I left it out - after all, how am I to know precisely what knowledge you already have?

[He sits back in his seat, a smirk on his face and he nods.]

That's right; your intel on Team Rocket, namely.

Very well then.

[Since they’re in private and he trusts Izaya for the time being, he won’t bother denying his involvement or anything like that. ]

As you may or may not know, Rockets arrive in Mahogany Town instead of New Bark Town. Upon arrival, their packs contain an introductory letter and a handbook.

[The Commander reaches into his bag and produces several pages containing selected passages from the handbook and a copy of the letter with his name blacked out. None of this can be traced back to him, and none of it is particularly interesting. It’s mostly generic Rocket statements about using Pokémon for nefarious purposes and obeying every order issued by the commanding officers.]

I’ll let you look these over before we continue.

[He takes the paperwork, looking it over carefully. He's making mental notes of all the information; he definitely wants to have multiple copies of this for reference. And blackmail. A lot of the latter, if need be. Of course, he doesn't say that - even though the information is generic, it's helpful as an "outsider."]

This is informative, Commander-sama! This is difficult to obtain, after all.

Very difficult! You have no idea how few people have access to this information!

[He has no idea either.]

Now then, upon arriving, if no orders are given, they’re typically allowed to wander off on their own. As you can see in those papers, orders are expected to be followed to the letter. No exceptions. However, aside from one incident, they seem rather lax about checking to see if anyone actually follows them. If I were to ssssssum up the leader’s personality, it would be as short-tempered, incompetent, inefficient, and idiotic!

It’s a shame, really. All the necessary resources to conquer Johto are there, but the horrible leadership is what truly handicaps the organization.

It sounds like it's more of a formality than a legitimate desire to have outsiders entering their ranks.

[Only pointing that out as a basic observation.]

Do you know how long it's been since anyone has directly heard from their leaders? It's been... quiet for a while now from the outside.

[The Commander stays quiet for a few moments trying to think of when the last contact was.]

Things have been quiet for months. Sssssince May. During that horrible storm. Which ended in another failure, of course.

Of course. [He's quiet for a moment, mentally cataloging all this information.] Perhaps their failures are giving them reason to reassess their approach.

Perhaps. But, sssspeaking from experience, people that incompetent usually don’t change. They can’t see what doesn’t work, let alone know how to start fixing it!

[He sounds like he knows what he’s talking about. After all, he sees people like this on a daily basis.]

I wouldn't argue that point in the slightest -- that doesn't mean they wouldn't make an attempt to reassess, though.

I sssstill don't think that's what they're doing. After all, these long stretches of nothing are rather common. If they were using them to reassessss the situation, something would have been done by now!

Having such minimal experience with them, I could only take guesses. For all we know, they've given up entirely, after all!

That would certainly explain a few things.

[And provide the opportunity for Cobra to try seize power.]

I should have sssssomeone look into that possibility.

You do have plenty of Rocket-related intel, don't you, Commander-sama?
